Med School Milk Money.

Med School Milk Money.

I’m sure any student agrees that when it comes to finding funds for school, every bit helps! I am very blessed to have been selected for two medical school scholarship programs. Before I detail the programs, just a few tips on finding and applying to med school scholarships:

  • Make sure that you stay up to date with your school email account. I found out about both opportunities via email from the Dean of Students. Throughout the year, she sends the emails to the entire student body. I know that med school keeps you busy, so these notifications are a really convenient way to stay abreast of opportunities.
  • Provide you letter writers with adequate time to develop and submit your letter. Things happen. People forget. People get busy. Let them know in advance to avoid any missed deadlines.
  • Be confident! So many people do not apply for scholarships because they don’t feel they meet all the criteria or don’t have a competitive application. Just. Apply. Just do it. Don’t tell yourself no before anyone has the chance to tell you yes!!

This year, I was able to secure the United Health Foundation and National Medical Fellowships (NMF) Diverse Scholars Program as well as the American Medical Association (AMA) Excellence in Medicine Award. I love to travel and was thrilled when I discovered that I would get to go to Washington, D.C. for the NMF award and Chicago, I.L. for the AMA award. In these cities, I met fellow scholars, attended professional development workshops, and ate amazing cuisine! I’m so honored to be apart of both programs.
